We are thrilled to share that Sachith Vithanage, an undergraduate from the B. Arch '19 Batch (Level 4) of the Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka participated at the prestigious 20TH ASIAN CONGRESS OF ARCHITECTS (ARCASIA ACA 20) from September 17th to 22nd, 2023, on Boracay Island, Philippines.
Sachith also had the distinct honour of being chosen as the Sri Lankan student representative for the ARCASIA Student Jamboree 2023.
This biennial event fosters intellectual exchanges and regional discussions among architects across ARCASIA member countries and beyond. Hosted this year by the United Architects of Philippines, the theme, 'Paghahabi: Weaving a Future-Ready Environment,' attracted architects and students from across Asia.
This year the congress theme provided 5 sub themes on ‘ call for paper ‘ event. Under the sub-theme 'Community and Social Resilience,' Sachith’s research titled "The spatial transition of a public space during a social movement with reference to ‘Gota – Go – Gama’ in Sri Lanka in 2022," has been selected and presented, on September 19th at the Boracay Newcoast Convention Center. The interactive open forum that followed was filled with engaging discussions alongside fellow architects and researchers.
Sachith's research delves into the intricate connection between public spaces and social movements, exploring their transformations during pivotal moments. The active participation of the audience during his presentation was truly inspiring.
We would like to express our gratitude to Board of Architectural Education, Sri Lanka Institute of Architects - SLIA for their invaluable assistance and sponsorship of this tour. We extend our thanks and wishes to his tutors, Archt. Prasad Botejue, Dr. Amanda Rajapakse, and Archt. Anusha Rajapakse for their constant guidance and support.
