The annual Student Jamboree organised by the Board of Architectural Education (BAE), Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) was held successfully at the Army Detachment Camp, Belihuloya from 06th to 09th September 2013.Approximately 100 students from the Department of Architecture of the University of Moratuwa (UOM) and the City School of Architecture, Colombo 07 (CSA) participated in this event.
The Student Jamboree provides a platform for students of the two schools to get together, build close friendships and exchange ideas. Creative abilities and skills of students of both schools were expressed in the two main activities organized as the Team Building and Survival programme and the Community programme. The Team Building and Survival programme focused on the importance of team work and responsibility, where each team displayed their creative abilities by staging a drama around the camp fire based on the experience gained by the activities performed during the day.
The Community programme focused on creating awareness and sensitivity on social responsibilities and was organised by the SLIA, BAE and Sri Shariputra Maha Vidyalaya, Imbulpe. One full day of the Jamboree was spent to paint one of the school buildings. Two computers were donated to the school and a collection of books (Sinhala and English) were also donated by the architectural students of UOM and CSA. The Principal and staff members, students and parents participated in this event and appreciated the activity which was of great benefit to the school.
