A presentation by award winning Bangladeshi Architect Rafiq Azam was held on Saturday 24th November 2012 at the Department.
He is the principal architect of the architecture firm Shatotto, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and has worked on projects in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Malaysia. He is also a teacher, a lecturer and a painter.
Mr. Azam’s specialization is unearthing the lost history and heritage of Bengal and recreating the missing link of its urban and rural culture. Extensive use of Water, Greenery and Fair faced concrete and exposed bricks for the structure are his trademark. In the presentation he explained how these elements are exploited to create contemporary buildings and spaces, but which were rooted in tradition and nature. Some very interesting projects done in Bangladesh and overseas were discussed and it was an enlightening and engaging presentation.
