Sustainability and Circular Economy

This is a research area in the Department which has gained more attention towards sustainability improvement and resources recovery. Specific research studies include but are not limited to environmental footprint assessment, life cycle assessment, resources recovery from waste, waste valorization, industrial symbiosis, etc. The research area has so many emerging topics with novel technologies and initiatives for the sustainable development and circular economy approaches in the world

Life cycle sustainability assessments of biofuel/biopolymer production processes

Several life cycle assessments and sustainability assessments have been performed for biofuel/biopolymer production processes from waste resources, such as bioethanol production from rice straw/water hyacinth, biohydrogen production from source-separated urine, biopolymer production from cane molasses, etc. The studies have contributed with many useful findings.
