Our Journey Since 1972
Being established in 1972 with only 8 undergraduates, DCPE proudly demonstrates much evidence of its immense growth during its journey through the years. The number of undergraduate student intake has increased from 8 to about 80 students per batch, and at present, the student body of the DCPE consists of over 300 undergraduates within the same academic year studying at various levels of their bachelor's degree programme and postgraduate programmes.

Over 50 Years of DCPE Alumni
With the first batch graduating in 1976, DCPE has produced about 1700 alumni over about 50 years, up to 2026.
Alumni of DCPE have established successful careers in academia and industry, both locally and internationally, while continuing to contribute to the development of the Department.
Our Alumni in Academia
DCPE alumni range from lecturers and associate professors to Heads of Departments and Deans in the academic arena.
They serve not only at the University of Moratuwa and other universities in Sri Lanka, but also across several foreign universities in countries including the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Singapore and Australia.
Our Alumni in Industry
DCPE alumni are positioned across different levels of process engineering and industrial careers, ranging from production executives and industrial engineers to Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers of large groups of companies.
Their contributions are not limited to Sri Lanka. DCPE graduates work in organisations across the USA, Canada, Norway, the Middle East, Singapore and many other parts of the world.
Connecting Alumni, Students & DCPE
Alumni in academia connect with current staff and undergraduates through various programmes such as Katha Baha sessions, career guidance related to higher study opportunities, academic collaborations with foreign universities and ChemEICon – Annual Research Conference.
DCPE also conducts events such as DCPE Alumni Night, DICB, Industry Forum, ChemELink – Official Career Fair, field visits and several industrial collaborations through which alumni from industry continue to connect with the Department.
