Progress meeting and capacity building workshops of EUSL Energy project held at CentraleSupélec, France and KTH, Sweden

The M33 meeting and capacity building workshops of Erasmus+ Capacity Building project EUSL Energy were held at CentraleSupélec, France and KTH, Sweden from 26th September - 7th October 2022 with the participation of project members from the Open University of Sri Lanka, the University of Peradeniya, the University of Ruhuna and the University of Moratuwa. Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Prof. L.N.W. Arachchige and Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Dr. H. P. Karunathilake from the Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the M33 meeting and capacity building workshops representing the University of Moratuwa.

Team FalconE Racing becomes Runner-up in Formula Bharat Competition 2022

Over many hurdles have they come as a team to be the only standing Formula Student Racing team in Sri Lanka. Recently they marked a very special milestone in their journey that deserves a moment for celebration. At the Formula Bharat 2022 (International Formula Student Competition in India), Team FalconE Racing ; Formula-E student team of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME) was bestowed with an array of accolades while becoming the Overall Runner-up. The team was guided by DoME academics Dr. JR Gamage and Dr. LU Subasinghe.

Prof. Gopura receives the "Most Outstanding Volunteer Award 2022 (Member category)" from IEEE Sri Lanka Section

DoME academic, Former Head-DoME, Former Chair IEEE Sri Lanka section, Prof. Ruwan Gopura won the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, "Most Outstanding Volunteer Award 2022 (Member category)" at the IEEE Sri Lanka section awards held on the 17th September, 2022. DoME proudly congratulates Prof. Gopura on his achievement.

DR AYESHA WICKRAMASINGHE WINS STATE LITERACY AWARD 2022 FOR THE BEST ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH WORK (ENGLISH-2021)

Dr Ayesha Wickramasinghe from the Fashion Design and Product Development, Department of Textile and Apparel Engineering, University of Moratuwa, was honoured with the State Literacy Award 2022 for the Best Academic and Research work (English-2021). The award ceremony was held on the 28th of October 2022, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) under the aegis of Hon. President Ranil Wickramasinghe, and was organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs. 

Professor Udayanga Hemapala was elected as the new dean of the faculty of Engineerng

Eng.(Prof) Udayanga Hemapala graduated in 2004 with a BSc Engineering (First Class Honours) degree in specializing Electrical Engineering. He obtained his PhD from the University of Genova, Italy in 2009. He joined the University of Moratuwa as a Senior Lecturer in 2010 and prior to being elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, he served as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Currently, he is a council member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and served as the Honorary Secretary to the Council during the 2021/22 session. He is the coordinator of the Smart Grid Research Lab which is recently established with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank.

Impression of China: Cloud Tour of Chinese Architectural Culture is a “Chinese Bridge” Delegation Online study camp project hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and organized by Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology. The project aims to meet the needs of overseas students to learn practical Chinese and experience Chinese architectural culture through Chinese language lessons and Chinese architectural cultural events.
