Professor Kanchana Perera from the Department of Building Economics, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, has received the most prestigious award for the Most Outstanding Senior Researcher (MOSR) 2022 under the Field of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology offered by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors Sri Lanka (CVCD).
Prof. Perera makes history by being the first academic conferred with the Most Outstanding Senior Researcher in the Field of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology by CVCD from the Faculty of Architecture.
The CVCD awards are the most prestigious and once-in-a-lifetime award given once in two years to the most prolific academics in Sri Lanka to honour their outstanding contributions. The applications for the CVCD Excellence Awards are evaluated by an expert panel and conferred by the Committee of Vice Chancellors & Directors (CVCD), comprising 17 Vice-Chancellors of state universities and three Rectors of university campuses.
Prof. Kanchana Perera joined the University in 2003 as a lecturer and promoted as a senior lecturer in 2005. She became the first Professor in Quantity Surveying in the Department of Building Economics in 2016. During the 20 years of her academic career, she served as the Director Staff Development Centre of the University of Moratuwa (2019 - 2023), the Chief Students Counsellor of the University of Moratuwa (2015- 2018), Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Faculty of Architecture (2012-2015), Senior Treasurer Building Economics Students Society (2011-2018), and students counsellor of the Faculty of Architecture (2007 -2023).
Prof. Perera is an active researcher in the field of Risk Management, Quantity Surveying Education, and Construction Management. She has published approximately 100 indexed journal articles and over 100 refereed international conference papers. She has received several recognitions for her contributions to research and towards the development of the country. She received University of Moratuwa Award of Excellence in Research in every year since 2013 and has received many Best Paper awards at international conferences. Additionally, she was selected to the elite category of Top 50 International Distinguished Academic Leaders 2020 by Green ThinkerZ.
Prof. Kanchana Perera has also been a successful leader in her profession, in addition to her work in academia. She is an active member of the Quantity Surveying professional arena. She is a fellow member of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyos, UK. During her professional journey, she has held various positions in the Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka and several national and international level committees, boards and institutes. She has rendered her service as a Council member, and the Vice President before being appointed to her current position as the President of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka. Her services as a Construction Industry Development Authority steering committee member from 2018 to 2022 is also noteworthy.
