Ceremonial Opening of K. K. Y. W. Perera Mobile Communications Laboratory

The Department of Electronic and Telecommunication of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, recently celebrated the opening of its new K. K. Y. W. Perera Mobile Communications Laboratory, which was established in collaboration with SLT-Mobitel and Huawei Technologies. The lab was named in honor of Vidyajothi Prof. K. K. Y. W. Perera, the founding head of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering and the current chancellor of the university.

Appointment as a Country Representative for Sri Lanka - Erasmus Mundus Association

Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering was appointed as an Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) Country Representative for Sri Lanka from 28th October 2022 - 10th October 2024. Country Representative positions are volunteered by Erasmus Mundus Scholars. Country representatives are worked under the Outreach and Capacity Building Unit of EMA which is aimed at promoting EMA and Erasmus Mundus globally. They guide Erasmus Mundus prospects, students, and alumni to make the most out of the experience on its different stages. Furthermore, they are the main point of contact between EMA and Erasmus Mundus prospects, alumni, and students coming from the country they represent.

Appointment as a Young Editorial Board Member

Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering was appointed as a Young Editorial Board Member of Applied Energy Journal from 1st of October 2022 for two years. As a Young Editorial Board Member, she was assigned to the Quality Control Team of the journal. Applied Energy is a Scopus-indexed peer-reviewed journal published by Elsevier which focuses on the areas of energy conversion and conservation, the optimal use of energy resources, analysis and optimization of energy processes, mitigation of environmental pollutants, and sustainable energy systems.

Visit of the AIT President to UoM

Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, President of Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand (AIT) visited the University of Moratuwa on 15thNovember 2022 and met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. N.D. Gunawardena. He was accompanied by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director/Office of Advancement & Alumni Affairs and Assistant to the President, and Ms. Sirikate Owasit, Senior Advancement Officer/Office of Advancement & Alumni Affairs.

Professor Yasangika Sandanayake elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Architecture

Prof. Yasangika Sandanayake has been appointed as the Dean, Faculty of Architecture, with effect from 3rd November 2022. She obtained her BSc in Quantity Surveying from University of Moratuwa, and PhD from University of Wolverhampton, UK. She joined the University of Moratuwa staff as a Lecturer in 2001. Currently, she is a Professor in Building Economics and is attached to the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa.

Dr. D.P. Chandrasekara appointed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa

Dr. D.P. Chandrasekara is appointed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, with effect from 5th October 2022. Dr. Chandrasekara who is an alumni of the University of Moratuwa obtained his first degree and the MSc. from the University of Moratuwa in 1983 and 1986 respectively. He obtained his PhD from the University of Colombo in 2017.

Progress meeting and capacity building workshops of EUSL Energy project held at CentraleSupélec, France and KTH, Sweden

The M33 meeting and capacity building workshops of Erasmus+ Capacity Building project EUSL Energy were held at CentraleSupélec, France and KTH, Sweden from 26th September - 7th October 2022 with the participation of project members from the Open University of Sri Lanka, the University of Peradeniya, the University of Ruhuna and the University of Moratuwa. Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Prof. L.N.W. Arachchige and Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Dr. H. P. Karunathilake from the Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the M33 meeting and capacity building workshops representing the University of Moratuwa.

Team FalconE Racing becomes Runner-up in Formula Bharat Competition 2022

Over many hurdles have they come as a team to be the only standing Formula Student Racing team in Sri Lanka. Recently they marked a very special milestone in their journey that deserves a moment for celebration. At the Formula Bharat 2022 (International Formula Student Competition in India), Team FalconE Racing ; Formula-E student team of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME) was bestowed with an array of accolades while becoming the Overall Runner-up. The team was guided by DoME academics Dr. JR Gamage and Dr. LU Subasinghe.
