Visit of Prof. Shuang-Hua Yang, Associate Dean, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen Guandong, China

Prof. Shuang-Hua Yang, Associate Dean, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen Guandong, China called on the Vice Chancellor, Director/International Relations and Dean-Engineering on Monday, 10th December 2018  and had a very interesting discussion which is expected to lead to  mutually  beneficial collaborations for both SUSTech and UOM.

Visit to The University of Moratuwa by Academics from Shandong University of Science & Technology (SDUST)

Professors Fan Zhijian(Vice Director/International Office), Miao Ruchang(Deputy Dean/College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering), Wang Jiayan (Vice Dean/Graduate School) and Zhuwu Zhu (Assistant Dean/College of Mining and Safety Engineering) from Shandong University of Science and Technology, China visited the University of Moratuwa on 14th November 2018 and had very successful discussions which would lead to further collaboration between the two universities, especially in the fields of Earth Resources Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, among others.

Visit of Delegation from IIT, New Delhi

The Ministry of Science & Technology hosted a team of delegates from the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) New Delhi, India in November 2018 which included a week of activities at the UOM, from 12th November to 19th November 2018.  The programme came within the purview of the Indo-Lanka project and commenced with a meeting between Prof. S.N Naik and Dr. Megha Mathur from IIT and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Director/International Relations  and  other academic staff members from UOM on 12th November 2018.

Vice Chancellor’s Visit to China – Oct/Nov 2018

 

Prof Kapila Perera, Vice Chancellor, was invited by a delegation from the Shanghai University of Electrical Power to the meeting of the International Association of Electric Power Universities for Belt & Road, and the establishment of the Regional Association of Electric Power Universities (RAEP) on 26th October 2018.  It was an honour for the University of Moratuwa to have its Vice Chancellor deliver a keynote address at this Forum on the topic, Trends in Energy Supply.

Award of Scholarships by University of Moratuwa Alumini in Western Australia(MORAWA)

The Alumni of our University residents in Western Australia, known as MORAWA, sent the necessary finances to set up a Scholarship Fund to help three deserving first year students from the Landscape Architecture Division. Office Bearers of the Society were in Sri Lanka earlier this year and visited UoM to inaugurate this Scholarship.

Captain of the University of Moratuwa Women Chess Team won the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship this year.

Dinushki Preamanath, the Captain of the University of Moratuwa Women Chess Team won the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship this year. The 3rd Year student who follows the Electrical Engineering course will lead the Sri Lanka National Women Chess team at the Chess Olympiad 2018 to be held in September at Batumi, Georgia this year.

External Examiners Visitation to the Department of Building Economics 2018

The Department of Building Economics has successfully completed the annual external examiners visitation 2018 for both BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and BSc (Hons) in Facilities Management degree programmes on 04th and 05th April 2018 at Mt. Lavinia Hotel. The external examination panel consists of following members from both academia and industry:

A Delegation from Osnabruck University, Germany visited the University of Moratuwa

Prof. Bärbel Schmidt, Dr. Lucia Schwalenberg and a group of ten students of Department of Textile Design and History, Osnabruck University, Germany visited the University of Moratuwa on 8th of March 2018 for a collaborative workshop with Department of Integrated Design. Through a workshop series, students of Osnabruck and Level Two students of Department of Integrated Design exchanged their ideas and research findings about the Sri Lankan handloom industry and different loom-weaving practices. At the end of the workshops, an exhibition was arranged to present the group findings.
