Captain of the University of Moratuwa Women Chess Team won the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship this year.

Dinushki Preamanath, the Captain of the University of Moratuwa Women Chess Team won the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship this year. The 3rd Year student who follows the Electrical Engineering course will lead the Sri Lanka National Women Chess team at the Chess Olympiad 2018 to be held in September at Batumi, Georgia this year.

External Examiners Visitation to the Department of Building Economics 2018

The Department of Building Economics has successfully completed the annual external examiners visitation 2018 for both BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and BSc (Hons) in Facilities Management degree programmes on 04th and 05th April 2018 at Mt. Lavinia Hotel. The external examination panel consists of following members from both academia and industry:

A Delegation from Osnabruck University, Germany visited the University of Moratuwa

Prof. Bärbel Schmidt, Dr. Lucia Schwalenberg and a group of ten students of Department of Textile Design and History, Osnabruck University, Germany visited the University of Moratuwa on 8th of March 2018 for a collaborative workshop with Department of Integrated Design. Through a workshop series, students of Osnabruck and Level Two students of Department of Integrated Design exchanged their ideas and research findings about the Sri Lankan handloom industry and different loom-weaving practices. At the end of the workshops, an exhibition was arranged to present the group findings. 

E- Forum 2018

The E-Forum 2018 is an initiative taken by the Electronic Club, the official student body of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering of University of Moratuwa was held on 29th of January 2018 at the BMICH for the 5th consecutive time.  It is considered as the premier event of Department calendar where academia and the industry get the opportunity to interact with each other.

02nd International Conference in Technology Management (iNCOTeM 2018)

The 02nd International Conference in Technology Management (iNCOTeM 2018) organized by the Department of Management of Technology, Faculty of Business, University of Moratuwa was held on 10th January 2018 at BMICH. This year’s theme was ‘Role of Business Technology in Knowledge Driven Economies’. The inauguration ceremony of MBA in Management of Technology/ Entrepreneurship 2018 held concurrently. Deputy Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia visits the Faculty of Business

Prof. Noor Azizi Ismail, Deputy Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia visited the Faculty of Business on 09th January 2018. Prof. Azizi was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Dean of Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business, UUM, and Dean for Research and Innovation, College of Business, UUM prior to the current appointment. He met the Vice Chancellor of University of Moratuwa Prof. Kapila Perera.

Prof. K.K.Y.W Perera was reappointed as the chancellor of University of Moratuwa for another 5 years.

Vidya Jyothi Professor  K.K.Y.W.Perera  was the founder and Head of the Department of Electronics  and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Moratuwa and its predecessors in 1969.  This was the first ever Department of Electronics and Telecom Engineering in a Sri Lankan University, and was formally instituted in 1972 at the formation of the Katubedda Campus of the then University of Sri Lanka.

Prof. Ananda Jayawardane bows out of Vice-Chancellorship

Prof. Ananda Jayawardane completes his second term as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa today, 27th November 2017. Prof. Jayawardane has made enormous strides in gearing the university towards its vision of making UoM an outstanding, globally recognized knowledge enterprise in Asia producing world class graduates and generating new knowledge in an environment that provides a rewarding experience for its students and staff. To that end, he laid special emphasis on quality assurance, international accreditation, improving research culture and enhancing innovation, thereby improving graduates’ responsiveness to industry needs.

Prof. Sarath Perera, the Technical Director of the Australian power Quality and Reliability Centre (APQRC), Dr. Duane Robinson, the Deputy Director of the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC), Dr. Ashish Agalgaonkar, Australian power Quality and Reliability Centre visited University of Moratuwa (UoM) on 07th July 2017.
