One-on-One Session on Career Guidance and Mental Wellbeing Empowers Students at University of Moratuwa

A special one-on-one session focused on career guidance and mental wellbeing was successfully held on 7th August 2025 at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa. The event was organized by the Chemical Engineering Students’ Society (ChESS) in collaboration with the Lions Club of Horana, aiming to equip undergraduates with the tools and insights necessary to thrive both professionally and personally.

The session featured two insightful guest speakers.

Mr. Indika Kumara, Factory Manager at Unilever Sri Lanka, delivered an inspiring talk on shaping a successful career path, emphasizing strategic planning and aligning with industry expectations. His experience in the corporate sector offered students a practical outlook on what lies ahead after graduation.

Addressing the mental and emotional dimensions of student life, Prof. Daya Rohana Athukorala from the Department of Educational Psychology, University of Colombo, shared valuable insights on maintaining a healthy and balanced mindset during university years. He highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence and self-care in achieving long-term academic and professional success.

The event was graced by officials from the Lions Club of Horana, along with lecturers from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering. A large number of students from the department attended the session, actively engaging in the discussions and gaining inspiration for their future journeys. This collaborative initiative not only created a platform for knowledge-sharing but also reinforced the importance of nurturing both career aspirations and personal wellbeing in parallel. The session concluded with an open discussion, allowing students to interact directly with the speakers and clarify their concerns.
