1st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of National Biotechnology Industry Association (NBIA) held on 20 August 2026 at Sri Lanka Institute of Biotechnology (SLIBTEC).
The event brought together leading representatives from industry, academia, and government, marking an important milestone in strengthening Sri Lanka’s biotechnology ecosystem and fostering collaboration and innovation.
A notable highlight was the appointment of Senior Prof. Ajith De Alwis as Pro Tem President of the AGM and his recognition with Fellow Membership of NBIA. Prof. Rathnasiri and the team of resource persons re-appointed to contribute as auditors for the certification of Bachelor of Biosystems Technology (BBST) programmes in Sri Lankan state universities. Dr. Kalindu Fernando was appointed as a member of the NBIA Executive Committee for 2026–2027.
Prof. De Alwis also delivered a presentation highlighting Sri Lanka’s biotechnology landscape, national policy and roadmap, and the sector’s potential to support the country’s high-tech export ambitions.
The programme concluded with a visit to SLIBTEC’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, providing opportunities to explore avenues for research collaboration, innovation, technology transfer, and industry engagement.
