The research papers titled ‘Assessment of the potential of microalgal CO2 sequestration from cement flue gas using locally isolated microalgae’ and ‘Development of a novel preprocessing method for removal of chlorophyll from microalgae’ received the best research paper awards in the Chemical and Process Engineering and Sustainable Energy categories respectively at the 6th International Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference (MERCon) held on the 28th July 2020. The research work was performed by Chamode Wijayasekera, Bimal Cooray, Malith Premaratne and Yashora Kulasinghe under the supervision of Dr. Thilini Ariyadasa at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa.
