Professor Thushara Rathnayake Appointed as Professor in Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering proudly congratulates Professor Thushara Rathnayake on her appointment as a Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.
Professor Rathnayake currently serves as the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB). She holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Management and an MSc in Quantum Engineering and Systems Science from the University of Tokyo, Japan, along with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa.
With extensive international research experience in Japan, including appointments at the University of Tokyo, RIKEN Advanced Research Institute, and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), her expertise spans nuclear engineering, advanced sensing technologies, energy systems, renewable energy, and resilient infrastructure. She has played a key leadership role in advancing nuclear science, energy innovation, and strategic technological development in Sri Lanka, effectively bridging research, policy, and engineering practice.
