The University of Moratuwa Convocation for External Degrees – 2022 Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) External Degree

The 08th convocation for the graduates of the Bachelor of Information Technology – External (BIT) programme  will be held on Monday, 30th January 2023 from 2.00 p.m. onwards at the Rubert Peiris Building of the University of Moratuwa.

The Chancellor of the University, Vidya Jyothi Professor Emeritus K.K.Y.W. Perera, will preside the Ceremony where 90 graduands will be conferred degrees.

Jayath Perera becomes Sri Lanka Champion and Southern Asia Region Runner Up in IMechE SOFE Competition 2022

We proudly congratulate Mr. Jayath Perera; a student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME), representing the University of Moratuwa (UoM) for becoming Sri Lanka Champion and Southern Asia Region Runner Up of Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) competition 2022 organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Team CircuitBreakers of ENTC Wins the IEEE Region 10 Robotics Competition

The Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Moratuwa is proud to announce the success of Team CircuitBreakers at the IEEE Region 10 Robotics Competition. The competition, which was held on 17 and 18 December 2022 at the Faculty of Engineering at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, focused on the theme of “Robotics for Healthcare.”

AIESEC in University of Moratuwa also known as AIESEC in Colombo South marked its excellence this year with its tremendous achievements at the Gala Awards Night of the National Leadership Development Seminar (NLDS 2022) hosted by AIESEC in Sri Lanka to upscale and uplift the leadership skills of the youth generation through practical experiences. AIESEC as a global youth led organization present in over 120 countries has proved its excellence in creating young leaders that are well-equipped and are capable of facing challenges and taking on that vision, AIESEC Sri Lanka has constantly acted as an entity dedicated to creating young leaders in Sri Lanka.

Ceremonial Opening of K. K. Y. W. Perera Mobile Communications Laboratory

The Department of Electronic and Telecommunication of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, recently celebrated the opening of its new K. K. Y. W. Perera Mobile Communications Laboratory, which was established in collaboration with SLT-Mobitel and Huawei Technologies. The lab was named in honor of Vidyajothi Prof. K. K. Y. W. Perera, the founding head of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering and the current chancellor of the university.

Appointment as a Country Representative for Sri Lanka - Erasmus Mundus Association

Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering was appointed as an Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) Country Representative for Sri Lanka from 28th October 2022 - 10th October 2024. Country Representative positions are volunteered by Erasmus Mundus Scholars. Country representatives are worked under the Outreach and Capacity Building Unit of EMA which is aimed at promoting EMA and Erasmus Mundus globally. They guide Erasmus Mundus prospects, students, and alumni to make the most out of the experience on its different stages. Furthermore, they are the main point of contact between EMA and Erasmus Mundus prospects, alumni, and students coming from the country they represent.

Appointment as a Young Editorial Board Member

Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering was appointed as a Young Editorial Board Member of Applied Energy Journal from 1st of October 2022 for two years. As a Young Editorial Board Member, she was assigned to the Quality Control Team of the journal. Applied Energy is a Scopus-indexed peer-reviewed journal published by Elsevier which focuses on the areas of energy conversion and conservation, the optimal use of energy resources, analysis and optimization of energy processes, mitigation of environmental pollutants, and sustainable energy systems.

Visit of the AIT President to UoM

Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, President of Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand (AIT) visited the University of Moratuwa on 15thNovember 2022 and met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. N.D. Gunawardena. He was accompanied by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director/Office of Advancement & Alumni Affairs and Assistant to the President, and Ms. Sirikate Owasit, Senior Advancement Officer/Office of Advancement & Alumni Affairs.
