A Gift from the B.Sc. Engineering 80/84 Batch- Refurbishment of the study area popularly known as “Apaaya”

In a remarkable demonstration of alumni commitment, the B.Sc. Engineering 80/84 batch of the University of Moratuwa has completed its 2025 CSR project, the full-scale renovation of the student study space popularly known as “Apaaya.” Originally a barely usable basement beneath the University’s main Library, Apaaya had evolved over the years into an ad-hoc study zone. The idea of the CSR project was to provide a space not just brick, walls and furniture but an environment where young minds can thrive, a space that encourages discipline, growth, and the pursuit of excellence. With a budget of Rs. 5.0 Mn, raised through donations from 77 alumni, the team delivered a comprehensive transformation:

Commencement of the Official Duties of the New Year - 2025

The University of Moratuwa commenced its official duties for the New Year on January 1, 2025, in alignment with the National Programme "Clean Sri Lanka” launched by the Presidential Secretariat. The event began with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and remembering the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Following this the academic, administrative, and non-academic staff of the University took part in reading the “Clean Sri Lanka” pledge by joining the nationally broadcasted ceremony that symbolized the commitment of the University to service excellence in the year ahead.

Appointment of Dr. Senaka Pilapitiya as the new dean of Faculty of Medicine, University of Moratuwa

Dr. Senaka Pilapitiya has been appointed the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Moratuwa, starting December 31, 2024. He succeeds the founding Dean, Prof. F.R. Fernando, whose visionary leadership set the stage for excellence in medical education; paving the way for a new era of progress and distinction for the faculty.

Prof. Thilini U. Ariyadasa Delivers Invited Talks on Microalgae-Integrated Resource Recovery at International Conferences

Prof. Thilini U. Ariyadasa from the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Moratuwa delivered three invited talks on the theme of "Microalgae-Integrated Resource Recovery from Waste Streams for Bioremediation and Sustainable Production" at prestigious international conferences in India.

UoM bus stop student competition 2024

Dr. Dinithi Herath from the University of Moratuwa Receives Prestigious Paediatric Interventional Radiology Scholarship

Dr. Dinithi Herath, a Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Moratuwa, has been honored with the Paediatric Interventional Radiology Scholarship for Member-in-Training 2024. This esteemed award, presented by the Society for Paediatric Interventional Radiology (SPIR), recognizes exceptional potential in the field of pediatric interventional radiology.

Professor Arun Kumar Sangaiah visited the University of Moratuwa

A distinguished professor from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), India; Prof. Arun Kumar Sangaiah visited the University of Moratuwa on 1st April 2024. He holds a Ph.D. from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at VIT University, Vellore. He is currently working for the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan. His visit was coordinated by Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu and Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara of Department of Electrical Engineering of university of Moratuwa.
