The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Moratuwa has emerged as a shining star at the Varsity Battles 2025, an inter-university quiz competition organized by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).

The competition, held for the second consecutive year, aims to broaden the knowledge of state university students in capital markets, global finance, business, and current affairs. This year’s contest featured teams from 13 state universities across Sri Lanka and was conducted in two stages: the Inter-Faculty Competition (Stage 01) and the National Level Competition (Stage 02).

Stage 01 of the contest was divided into three clusters. Cluster 03 included the University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, University of Kelaniya, University of Ruhuna, and Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The cluster-level competition was held on July 23, 2025.

In a remarkable display of knowledge and teamwork, two of the three teams representing the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa, were selected among the top three winning teams of the university. Even more impressively, the team crowned as the overall Cluster 03 Champion was also from the Faculty of Engineering, triumphing over a competitive field of 37 teams from the cluster.

Varsity Battles 2025 featured seven quiz rounds covering topics from capital markets and economic developments to local and international current affairs, sports, entertainment, and general knowledge.

The winning teams from each university will now advance to Stage 02 – the National Level Competition – where the top-performing teams across the country will battle for the championship title.

The achievement of the Faculty of Engineering is not only a testament to the academic excellence fostered at the University of Moratuwa but also an inspiration for greater student engagement in financial literacy and capital market education.
