The Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the University of Moratuwa successfully hosted the Round Table Conference 2026 on 13th March 2026 at the Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo, marking the revival of its flagship national forum after 2018.
Centered on the theme “Driving Change: Powering Sri Lanka’s Clean Energy Transition”, RTC ’26 focused on electric mobility and its integration into the Sri Lankan power system, bringing together industry, academia, and policy perspectives. Key discussions highlighted the current EV landscape in Sri Lanka, including market growth, charging infrastructure development, grid readiness, and associated regulatory and operational challenges. Global EV ecosystems were also referenced to provide comparative insights and best practices.
The panel was moderated by Prof. Asanka Rodrigo and comprised Dr. Beshan Kulapala, Mr. Guido Bruggeman, Mr. Hasith Prematillake, and Eng. Buddhika Samarasekara. The panel brought together expertise from EV charging industry leadership, international EV policy, and Sri Lanka’s power system operations, enabling a well-rounded and insightful discussion.
The event was attended by industry guests, academic staff, and undergraduate students, creating an engaging platform for knowledge sharing and interaction across multiple stakeholders.
The Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena, graced the occasion as a special guest.
RTC ’26 reaffirmed EESoc’s commitment to fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers in advancing Sri Lanka’s clean energy transition.
