Prof. T.S.G. Peiris visited the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) as a Visiting Professor for a two month period from 15 August to 14 October. During his visit, he worked on a students' handbook on "Analysis of Multivariate Data using SPSS software" with Prof. Thomas Mathew of UMBC. Prof. Peiris delivered a seminar in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, UMBC titled: "Statistical Analysis of Dry Spells in Sri Lanka: Challenge to Applied Statisticians". He discussed many statistical problems related climate prediction in Sri Lanka. The audience comprised of graduate students and staff members.
