Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference (MERCon) 2023 was held from the 9th to 11th of November 2023. MERCon resumed its physical mode this time after three years of virtual presence. The main conference was held at the Civil Engineering Departmental Building Complex. The number of paper presentations was 137 in four parallel sessions covering 22 tracks. Prof. Thrishantha Nanayakkara, the director of Morphlab, Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London and Prof. Shanika Karunasekara, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Systems, University of Melbourne, Australia were the keynote speakers during the main conference. Prof. Jason Mars of University of Michigan who is a co-founder and the CEO of Clinc, the cutting edge AI startup that developed world’s most advanced conversational AI delivered the keynote speech at the MERCon 2023 closing and award ceremony. The awards ceremony was also graced by the Director Research Prof. R. A. R. C. Gopura, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. K.T.M.U. Hemapala, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Prof. A.
A. P. De Alwis, General Chair of MERCon 2023 Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara, the Program Chair of MERCon 2023 and the Director of Engineering Research Unit Dr. Sulochana Sooriyaarachchi, the heads of several departments and senior academics. The conference was organized by the Engineering Research Unit and the IEEE Student Branch of University of Moratuwa with Technical Co-sponsorship of IEEE and Financial Sponsorship of University of Moratuwa and the industry.
