The Department of Electrical Engineering marked the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with Trical Udanaya 2025, held on the 1st of May. The event brought together students from across all batches and staff to celebrate the cultural traditions of the New Year in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara and was attended by several senior lecturers and academic staff, whose presence added warmth and significance to the occasion. Students and the lecturers, dressed in traditional attire, contributed to the festive spirit and cultural tone of the day.
Held at the Sumanadasa courtyard, the celebration featured a variety of traditional Sri Lankan New Year games and activities. The event also included performances of traditional dance and music. A highlight of the celebration was the Kiri Ithiraweema, performed with the participation of both lecturers and students. This ceremonial moment set the tone for the event, grounding it in tradition and symbolizing good fortune and unity for the year ahead.
Trical Udanaya 2025 was not only a celebration of the New Year but also a reflection of the department’s appreciation for cultural heritage. It created space for students to come together, take a break from academics, and connect through shared traditions.
