Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara has been appointed as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, succeeding Prof. Anura Wijayapala, with effect from 20th October 2025.
Prof. Jayasekara graduated from the University of Moratuwa with a B.Sc. Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and completed his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the same university in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He pursued his Ph.D. in Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the University of Saga, Japan, in 2010.
He is actively involved in research projects such as intelligent mobile robots for domestic environments, intelligent wheelchairs, and other artificial intelligence applications. His main research interests include human–robot interaction, service robotics, intelligent systems, and AI applications in electrical engineering. He has published over 160 papers in international journals and conferences. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

We thank him for his leadership during a challenging period and for his efforts in elevating the department to a higher level through timely initiatives and developmental actions.
