The Department of Electrical Engineering had the honour of welcoming Emeritus Professor Sam Karunaratne for a special lecture delivered to the 2024 intake during their special term. The session was a memorable and inspiring experience for both students and staff.
The event commenced with an insightful introduction by Prof. Anura Wijayapala, who highlighted Prof. Karunaratne’s remarkable contributions to the field of electrical engineering and his enduring legacy as an academic leader.
Prof. Karunaratne’s lecture, titled “Esoterics of Professional Learning – Development of Electrical Engineering Education,” explored the deeper philosophies of professional growth, the evolution of engineering education, and the responsibilities of future engineers in an increasingly complex world.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, Prof. J.P. Karunadasa and Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu also addressed the gathering, sharing heartfelt memories from their days as students under Prof. Karunaratne. Their reflections underscored the profound impact he has had on generations of engineers.
