The 4th International Conference on Electrical Engineering (EECon 2024), organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the University of Moratuwa, concluded successfully on December 12, 2024, at the Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The conference served as a premier platform for academics, professionals, and industry leaders to share ground-breaking ideas and solutions in the field of electrical engineering. This year’s event featured engaging discussions across four technical tracks: Power Systems, Energy Systems and Smart Technologies, Electrical Machines and Power Electronics, and Robotics and Intelligent Systems.
Two distinguished keynote speakers enriched the conference with their insights:
- Dr. Priyantha D.C. Wijayatunga, Senior Director of Energy at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), presented on "Energy Transition: Multilateral Financing Institutions' Perspective."
- Prof. Jason Mars, a computer science professor at the University of Michigan and CEO of Jaseci Labs, delivered a thought-provoking keynote on "Generative AI: Feels Like Progress, but We're Still Stuck."
EECon 2024 attracted 59 paper submissions from 26 institutions across nine countries, with 26 papers selected for presentation after a rigorous double-blind review process, reflecting a 44% acceptance rate.
A highlight of the conference was the award ceremony, where the best papers were recognized, celebrating the outstanding contributions of researchers in advancing sustainable and impactful engineering practices.
