Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, has been appointed as the Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Sri Lanka Chapter for the 2026 committee term.
IEEE PES Sri Lanka serves as a national professional platform that connects academics, researchers, students, and industry practitioners in the power and energy sector through technical programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and industry engagement. As part of the IEEE Power and Energy Society, it supports the advancement of electric power and energy technologies, promotes best practices and professional development, and encourages collaboration toward a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
Dr. Samarasinghe is an academic and researcher specializing in power and energy-related domains. She obtained her BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa and completed her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at RMIT University, Australia. In addition to her academic responsibilities, she has actively contributed to professional and technical initiatives that strengthen the connection between university research, engineering practice, and national development priorities.
Her appointment as Chair reflects her continued commitment to advancing technical leadership and fostering collaboration across Sri Lanka’s power and energy community, while supporting engineers, researchers, and students through meaningful professional engagement and knowledge exchange.
