The MSc in Electrical Engineering program has been designed to provide the opportunity for engineering graduates to extend and update their knowledge and skills in the area of electrical engineering with a particular emphasis on power generation, transmission and distribution. The program covers advanced areas in electrical engineering required by engineers responsible for power systems. Details are given below.

All lectures and examinations will normally be conducted on weekends during the first year of the course. In the second year of study, students undertake an individual research project of one-year duration on a part-time basis leading to a dissertation. Those candidates who successfully complete the credit requirement in the first year and the research project in the second year will be awarded the Degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Degree of Bachelor of the Science of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa in Electrical Engineering; OR
- Any other Engineering Degree of at least four years duration in a relevant field of specialization, as may be approved by the Senate; OR
- Any recognized category of membership of a recognized Professional Institute in a relevant field, obtained through an academic route, with a minimum of one year of post-qualifying relevant experience obtained after the membership, as approved by the Senate.

The following figure shows the eligibility criteria and options available for the Electrical Power and Energy Sector. Candidates can apply and register for the MSc in Electrical Engineering course or the Master of Smart Power Systems course, and transfer registrations are available as given below. The postgraduate diploma is available as a fallback option.
