Halloween-Themed Joint Meeting with Panadura Toastmasters Club

Published 16 November 2014 | By Thilini Weerasuriya

Joint meetings are always enjoyable events, and themed meetings are even more enjoyable. So you can imagine the fun we had at the Halloween-themed joint meeting with Panadura Toastmasters Club, on the 15th of November, 2014. (Yes, Halloween is on October 31st, but that doesn’t matter when it comes to having fun!) The Panadura Toastmasters hosted the meeting at their usual meeting venue, the Panadura SLT Auditorium, which had been creatively decorated to match the spooky theme. Our club members were welcomed by the Panadura Toastmasters with warm smiles, open arms, and scrumptious refreshments. Some of the more daring Toastmasters wore costumes to spice up the meeting.

An interesting Round Robin session was conducted by TM Farhan Imamuddeen, visiting from SLIM Toastmasters Club, who had each member tell a 20-second story with a Halloween flavour, adding to what the previous speaker put forward. Next we had three entertaining prepared speeches by Toastmasters from both Panadura and University of Moratuwa. This was followed by a Table Topic session where the speakers had to base their speeches on an item chosen from a bag provided by Table Topic Master TM Madhavi Perera. Subsequently, all the speakers were given valuable evaluations to improve their skills.

All in all, we experienced a pleasurable and engaging joint meeting with the Panadura Toastmasters Club, and look forward to conduct more joint meetings with them in the future.

Joint Meeting with APIIT Toastmasters Club

Published 14 August 2014 | By Thilini Weerasuriya

One of the more memorable meetings of the year 2014 was the joint meeting with the APIIT Toastmasters Club, on the 13th of August 2014 at the University of Moratuwa. The APIIT “Toasties” found their way to the University of Moratuwa and were welcomed with open arms by our club members. An interesting Table Topic session was conducted, with volunteer speakers from both clubs rushing to grab a topic. This was followed by three Prepared Speeches, which kept the audience entertained. After the speeches, constructive evaluations were provided. At the end of the meeting, we bid farewell to our friends from APIIT, with the promise of visiting their club for another joint meeting in time to come.

Joint meetings are indeed valuable events, since we are able to share new experiences, different ideas, alternative ways of conducting meetings, and see a new set of faces to add variety to the meeting. At the end of the day, all the members are left with a worthwhile experience and cherished memories.
