Our History

The Center for Supply Chain Operations and Logistics Optimization (SCOLO) was established in late 2021 under the visionary leadership of Prof. Niles Perera and Prof. Amila Thibbotuwawa at the Department of Transport Management & Logistics Engineering, University of Moratuwa. With strategic support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) through the “Enhancing Lean Practices in Supply Chains: Digitalization” initiative, SCOLO was founded with the ambition to bridge academic research and practical innovation in the evolving fields of supply chain and logistics.

From its modest inception, SCOLO rapidly emerged as a dynamic hub for multidisciplinary research, bringing together passionate scholars and international collaborators. In just a few years, the center has achieved remarkable milestones including over 110+ scholarly publications, successful partnerships with more than 20 academic institutions across 11 countries, and the hosting of global academic delegations from Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the USA.

SCOLO has continually expanded its research footprint through projects focusing on Forecasting, Inventory Decision-Making, Life Cycle Analysis, Sustainable Circular Economy, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Augmented Reality, Digital Twins, Operations Research, Management Science, System Dynamics, And Blockchain Technology on Supply Chain, Operations, and Logistics. It has also become a nurturing ground for emerging researchers, drawing talent from faculties across the world and supporting a growing cohort of postgraduate scholars.

Today, SCOLO stands as a testament to the power of collaborative, cross-disciplinary research in shaping the future of supply chain and logistics optimization both locally and globally.
