The field of Biomedical Engineering is one of national significance – holding opportunity to drive initiatives that could bolster the medical field to provide better healthcare to all citizens. The insights from biomedical engineering can give the citizenry access to efficient health support services, provide tools to support day-to-day living, and improve overall healthcare experience with the medical field.
The ways in which Biomedical Engineering can drive a national impact are multiple – yet, in the past few decades, few innovations have emerged from Sri Lanka’s biomedical expertise.
The reason? Lack of multidisciplinary collaborations.
For Biomedical Engineering to be able to make true impact – a multidisciplinary approach is needed. Collaborative relationships between the medical, health, engineering professions, and the general public are needed to gain insight to what innovations are needed in Sri Lanka today.
The Center for Biomedical Innovation, a multidisciplinary research center established by the University of Moratuwa, aims to bridge to fill the vacuum of no collaborations, and build a space where medical and engineering professionals can work together to address the nation’s medical needs.
