A workshop on ‘Personal Branding’ was organized by the Sparks Unilever Team, University of Moratuwa on 19th of July 2018. The main highlights of the workshop includes the use of social media as a tool of personal branding. In today’s context, it is important that an individual, as a potential candidate for various job opportunities in any field of employment, maintains a strong online identity. But as students of the Faculty of Business, we find that strong interpersonal relationships and good networks with the professionals and colleagues in the industries of business and finance are decisive factors for our career building, and this can be achieved by branding oneself as a competent individual in the eyes of both local and global employers through the use of social media. Mrs. Jency Paul, Global Graduate Recruitment Specialist – Unilever, who conducted the session emphasized on the growing popularity among employers to use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and specially LinkedIn to recruit the employees with the right talent and attitude, as their social media profiles provide much insight about the candidates rather than in a traditional recruitment process such as interviews. Furthermore, we actively participated in the workshop through creating our own LinkedIn accounts with a professional touch.
