Visit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Representative to the University of Moratuwa

On 25th July 2025, Mr. Satya Sha, Director of South Asia and Other Markets at QUT, Brisbane, Australia, visited the University of Moratuwa. A meeting was held with Prof. G.D. Samarasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Business; Prof. Udeni Nawagamuwa, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering; Dr. H.G.H. Damruwan, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering; and Ms. Yashodara Karunarathne, Assistant Registrar of the External Affairs, Publicity and International Student Promotion Division.

The following key matters were discussed during the meeting:

It was noted that an MoU to be signed with UoM and the QUT has been approved by the UoM Council and ready to be sent for external approvals. The representative agreed to review this MoU and revert with any necessary amendments before sending the same by UoM for external approval.

The QUT representative expressed interest in promoting a 2+3 pathway programme, through which undergraduates from the University of Moratuwa (UoM), upon completion of two years of study, could transfer to QUT to complete a three-year programme leading to a Master’s degree.

It was suggested that all one-to-one and Department-to-Department collaborations should be facilitated through the International Office, QUT to ensure effective coordination.

It was informed that a QUT professor is expected to visit UoM during the October–November 2025 period to explore potential academic collaborations in further detail.

UoM officials noted that despite the MoU not being formally signed, there are several ongoing collaborative activities—such as undergraduate and postgraduate supervision and individual academic partnerships—between the two institutions.
