A three-member delegation from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India, visited the University of Moratuwa (UoM) on 27 July 2026 to explore opportunities for strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.
The IISc delegation comprised Prof. Baladiya Suri, Chair of the Office of International Relations (OIR) and Associate Professor, Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics; Prof. Aloke Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and OIR Committee Member; and Prof. Arindam Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Automation and OIR Committee Member.
The delegation was welcomed by representatives of the University of Moratuwa, including Prof. (Mrs.) S.A.D. Dias, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. J.M.A. Manatunge, Dean, Faculty of Engineering; Prof. S.D. Pilapitiya, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prof. M.S.D. Fernando/Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof. Dinesh Attygalle, Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Dr. (Mrs.) I.U. Attanayake, Senior Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering; and Ms. Y.S. Karunarathne, Assistant Registrar, External Affairs, Publicity and International Student Promotion Division.
During the meeting, representatives of the two institutions exchanged information on their respective academic and research strengths and discussed potential areas for mutually beneficial collaboration. The IISc delegation presented an overview of the Institute, its research capabilities and opportunities for international engagement, while the discussions provided an opportunity to identify areas of common interest across science, engineering and related disciplines.
Particular attention was given to opportunities for joint research and academic activities, student and researcher exchanges, faculty interactions, collaborative postgraduate education, technical and research engagements, and other initiatives that could facilitate sustained institutional cooperation.
The visit also enabled interactions with academics in relevant disciplines, providing a platform for more focused discussions on potential research linkages in areas including instrumentation and applied physics, quantum technologies, mechanical engineering, materials science, computer science and automation, as well as other interdisciplinary areas of mutual interest.
The visit further strengthened the ongoing engagement between the two institutions, building on previous interactions between IISc and the University of Moratuwa, and marked another step towards fostering a long-term academic and research partnership between the two institutions.
