The National Languages Processing Center (NLPC), at the University of Moratuwa has developed the SiTa Computer-Assisted Translation System for the translation of official documents among Sinhala, Tamil, and English. The machine-translated document is checked and corrected by a professional translator and finally verified by a reviewer.
This service is now available to government institutions for the translation of documents in English, Sinhala or Tamil translated into one or both of the other languages. A team of undergraduate students (Team NFPUndercover) from the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (ENTC), University of Moratuwa, became the 2nd runner up in the IEEE Video and Image Processing Cup (VIP Cup) 2021 competition at the 28th International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2021. The team consists of four ENTC undergraduates, Mr. Jathurshan Pradeepkumar, Mr. Udith Haputhanthri, Mr. Mohamed Afham and Ms. Mithunjha Anandakumar. Mr. Ashwin de Silva tutored the team, and Dr. Chamira Edussooriya supervised the team.
