Message from Director for International Relations

Dr Samaradivakara GVI-DIR-UoMWelcome to the website of the Division of External Affairs, Publicity and International Student Promotion [EAP & ISP] of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. The EAP & ISP is a relatively young Division in our university, having been established in the year 2012.

I feel greatly privileged to extend my services to the University of Moratuwa in the capacity of Director for International Relations, a position I accepted in January 2024, particularly so in the aftermath of a crisis situation in the country.

I do believe that this is an opportune time for all proactive people to work together with greater resolution than ever, sharing their knowledge and experience gathered in both the local and overseas contexts, share their innovative and constructive thoughts, and contribute in their fullest capacity to raise the capacity and image of our university to the next possible advancement.

I applied to take up my current position at the end of last year, full of confidence to undertake the accompanying responsibility, and with great interest to share twenty-five years of my work experience gained by involvement with overseas and local dynamic engineering field operations, with the best intention to contribute for further enhancement of the capacity and reputation of our University.

The University of Moratuwa completed 50 years of history in the year 2022, and I am positive that this University has made an immense contribution to the advancement of Science and Technology. This is well reflected by the successful achievements by our Alumni, working across the globe in the academia and industry.

Our strengths arise from having an academic staff with post-graduate qualifications from globally recognized Universities, the experience gained by the staff working with the industry and government organizations, the strong network of our Alumni and well-wishers from industry, and the internationally accredited academic programs being delivered in diverse fields.

The immediate priorities of our international relations can be listed as expanding our interaction with foreign universities for more joint research programs such as split PhDs, establishing exchange programs for staff and students with reputed foreign universities, and enhancing the attraction of our university by improving its infrastructure and developing the waterfront, especially by taking advantage of the scenic Bolgoda Lake located next to our premises.

I see the very peaceful and multicultural environment that we have in our University, and its convenient location with easy access to the City of Colombo, the International Airport and the Expressways as great strengths and advantages in our drive to attract greater numbers of international students and researchers in the future.

Our genuine effort is to establish international collaborations for the mutual benefits resulting in “win-win” situations, for the sustainability of our internationalization mechanism in the long-term.

Thank You.
Best regards!
