Centre for Cities - UoM Urban Lab was initially operated as a virtual centre where members were mostly participated by discussions, meetings and communicating over electronic media. The research projects are now being carried out by members in their own departments. Currently, the Centre has an appropriate physical space and other facilities to carry out the researches. It ensures common ground for both local and foreign academics, researches and students with different research interests and scopes to integrate their work.

Further to that, the centre is always trying the best to expand the facilities and maintain reliable archive services on Cities especially in Sri Lanka to serve the public, its connections and interdisciplinary relations through research on high density and mega cities.
