Prof. V.M. Wickramasinghe from the Department of Management of Technology, University of Moratuwa has received the prestigious “Most Outstanding Senior Researcher in the field of Management and Law” offered by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors Sri Lanka (CVCD).
Prof. Wickramasinghe makes history by being the first academic who is conferred with both the Most Outstanding Senior Researcher and the Most Outstanding Young Researcher in Management and Law, in 2020 and 2008, respectively, under the CVCD Excellence Awards Scheme.
The CVCD awards are the most prestigious and once-in-a lifetime awards given once in two years to the most prolific academics in Sri Lanka to honour their outstanding contributions. The CVCD was established in 1979 under the Universities Act as an advisory body to the University Grants Commission and comprises 17 Vice-Chancellors of state universities and three Rectors of university campuses.
Prof. Wickramasinghe joined the Department of Management of Technology, the University of Moratuwa as a Senior Lecturer in 2004, was promoted to the post of Professor in 2010, and Senior Professor in 2018.
She obtained her primary and secondary education at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo 07. She graduated from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura with a B.Sc. Honours Degree in Business Administration and winning the Professor Linus Silva Gold Medal for the best overall performance during the four-year degree programme. She holds a PhD from The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. She had also undergone specialised training in the area of Technology Management at the research centre for Policy Research in Engineering, Science and Technology at The University of Manchester. She was a Fulbright Research Fellow at the University of Colorado in the USA and a Commonwealth Research Fellow at the University of Lancaster in the United Kingdom.
Her proven track record in research is amply demonstrated in the following achievements:
- Winner of the Most Outstanding Young Researcher in Management and Law under the CVCD Excellence Awards Scheme in 2008;
- Winner of the President’s Award for Scientific Publication for the year 2010 awarded by the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka;
- Winner of the National Research Council Merit Award for Scientific Publication for the years of 2011 and 2012, awarded by National Research Council of Sri Lanka;
- Winner of Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence - Outstanding Paper Award for the years of 2013 and 2018.
During the 18 years of her illustrious academic career, she served as the Director of Research of the University of Moratuwa (2018 to 2020), the Director of Business Research Unit of the Faculty of Business (2018), and the Editor of Engineering Research Unit of the Faculty of Engineering (2006 and 2007).
