Prof. (Mrs.) Gayithri Kuruppu has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Business, University of Moratuwa, with effect from 15th September 2026. She is the 4th Dean of the Faculty of Business established in 2017.
Prof. (Mrs.) Kuruppu is a Professor in the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Business, and has served the University of Moratuwa in several academic capacities since 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Finance from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Colombo, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Behavioural Finance from the University of Wollongong, Australia.
During her academic career, Prof. (Mrs.) Kuruppu has contributed to teaching, curriculum development, postgraduate education, research, academic administration and industry engagement. She has served as the Head of the Department of Industrial Management, providing leadership to the Department and contributing to its academic advancement. She has also played an active role in the establishment and growth of the Faculty of Business, including the design and development of degree programmes and curricula. Her contribution to the wider University extends through her involvement in academic, quality assurance, curriculum, research, risk management, and other institutional committees.
Her academic and research interests span behavioural finance, financial decision-making, sustainable finance, blue finance, and other emerging areas in finance, including contemporary issues relating to sustainability, environmental concerns, and emerging financial markets. She has maintained an active research profile, with her work published in reputable academic journals and presented at national and international research conferences.
Prof. (Mrs.) Kuruppu’s appointment comes at an important stage in the continued development of the Faculty of Business. Her experience in academic leadership, programme development, research, administration, and engagement with industry will support the Faculty as it continues to strengthen its education, research, innovation and external engagement.
