MERCon 2022 - Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference

The 8th international conference, Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference (MERCon) 2022 organized by the Engineering Research Unit was successfully held in virtual mode from 27th to 29th July 2022.

The conference programme included 151 papers selected from 299 submissions. Total of 944 authors from 19 countries have submitted papers to MERCon 2022. This is the highest number of paper submissions in the history of the conference which is a significant milestone.

Three distinguished academics delivered their keynote address at the conference.

  • Keynote 1: Edge Intelligence over Wireless: Present and Future by Prof. Mehdi Bennis, University Oulu, Finland.
  • Keynote 2: Future of Urban Mobility and Infrastructures: From Car-Lite to Electrification and towards Connected Autonomy by Dr. Ong Ghim Ping Raymond, National University of Singapore, Singapore.
  • Keynote 3: Operation and Control Challenges of Renewable Rich Power Grids by A/Prof. Lasantha Meegahapola, RMIT University, Australia.

MERCon 2022 also made arrangements to organize 8 workshops covering various subject areas. More than 400 participants have registered for the workshops this year: A Hands on Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Workshop on Applying ‘Time-of-Day’ Concept in Transport Demand Modelling Using Cube Voyager Software, Strengthening Supply Chain Resilience in a Post-Pandemic World, Lifecyle Assessment Tools for Sustainability Assessment of Whole Buildings, Latest Developments of Multidisciplinary Research in the Transport Sector, Fair and Explainable AI in Biology and Medicine, Trustworthy Machine Learning, ‘Lifting the Lid’: Developing Academic Literacy as a Means of Supporting English Medium Degree programmes.

The conference received technical co-sponsorships by the IEEE, IEEE Sri Lanka Section, Sri Lanka Section chapter of IEEE Power and Energy Society, Sri Lanka Section chapter of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Sri Lanka chapter of IEEE Computer Society and Sri Lanka Section chapter of IEEE Communications Society.  Selected papers will be published in IEEE Xplore.
