Inauguration Ceremony held on 30th March 2023 at BMICH marked the commencement of the first intake of MSc in Energy for Circular Economy, the joint program offered by four universities; Open University of Sri Lanka, University of Peradeniya, University of Ruhuna, and University of Moratuwa, in collaboration with KTH Sweden, Centrale Supelec, France and University of Twente, Netherlands. The program is the main outcome of Erasmus+ Capacity Building project EUSL Energy.
The ceremony was graced by Snr. Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of University Grants Commission, Prof. P.M.C. Thilakarathne, Vice Chancellor of Open University of Sri Lanka, Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Vice Chancellor of University of Peradeniya, Snr. Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice Chancellor of University of Ruhuna, and Prof. Udayanga Hemapala, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Torsten Fransson, Emeritus Professor at KTH Sweden, and Eng. Lakshitha Weerasinghe, Deputy General Manager of Transmission and Generation Planning Ceylon Electricity Board delivered the guest speech.
Prof. Shantha Egodage, Head of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, and Prof. Shantha Walpalage, former Head of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering joined the ceremony along with the EUSL Energy project team at University of Moratuwa. Most of the students also attended the ceremony and gained insight into the MSc program and different track specializations of the program offered by four universities.
