Recently, University of Moratuwa students brought glory to our country by winning the premier international robot completion, INexus. The two University of Moratuwa student teams competed in the completion early this month and won the 1st place and the 3rd place, beating teams from Australia and India. This year, the competition was held in the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. The winning team comprised of T.M.A.Tennakoon, E.G.N.Karunarathne, S.A.H.S.Subasinghe, R.A.C.Ranathunga, and N.C.Illangarathne. The third place was won by the team comprising of D M B Mudunkotuwa, L.Lajanugen, K.L.J.A.Perera, P.N.D.Panagoda, U.P.P.D.Pathirana, Y.N.Mallawarachchi. These teams were mentored by Dr. Rohan Munasinghe, a Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering.The Sri Lankan leg of iNexus robot competition was held on the 14th of December 2011 at the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering premises, University of Moratuwa. It was a major event organized by the E-Club of the Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering department where the giants of electronics and robotics met at a same battlefield. From all of them 3 teams were selected to represent Sri Lanka at the Techfest iNexus competition on 6th January 2012 held in IIT Bombay, India.A total of 8 teams from 3 countries India, Sri Lanka and Australia competed for a single crown. Among them 2 teams from Sri Lanka managed to qualify to the semifinal along with one team from India and one from Australia. At the grand finale one team from university of Moratuwa won the championship beating the Indian team while the other team managed to secure 3rd place beating the Australian team.
