The Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) established in 1994, is the social arm of Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Moratuwa, and serves as a forum for academia, professionals and students. One of the main events of the EESoc is a panel discussion held annually for more than a decade, on a burning issue related to the profession of electrical engineering, with the participation of an eminent panel of professionals, to share information with the undergraduates, professionals and the general public. The EESoc also conducts a social service programme for differently abled children, guest lectures, field visits for electrical students and professionals.
This year’s panel discussion will be held on 20th of December 2013 commencing at 4.30 p.m. at Grand Ballroom of Hotel Galadari, Colombo under the topic “Towards a Rational Consumer Tariff”. Minister of Technology, Research and Atomic Energy, Honorable Patali ChampikaRanawaka will be gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest and the Prof. K.K.Y.W.Perera an eminent electrical engineering professional who is also the Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, will be the Guest of Honor.
Prof. Prinath Dias, Head of department of Electrical Engineering will be the moderator of the panel and Dr. Thilak Siyambalapitiya (RMA), Dr.Narendra de Silva(LECO), Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe (Central Bank), Eng. Jayasiri Karunanayake, Mr.Bandula Thilakasena(CEB) and Mr. Kanchana Siriwardana(PUCSL) will be the resource persons. The discussion is expected to cover technological, economical, social and environmental aspects of electrical tariff. The outcome of the panel discussion is expected to be presented to policy makers.
