jrlucasProfessor Rohan Lucas is an Emeritus Professor in Electrical Engineering. Having graduated from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya and postgraduate degrees from the prestigious UMIST in Manchester UK, he has 43 years of postdoctoral experience in teaching, research and professional experience, in Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand. A researcher in power system analysis, modelling and simulation for over 45 years, has published over 70 papers and co-authored 10 text-books in Electrical Engineering. Has extensive experience in transient simulation and analysis with the current-transformer model developed included as a feature 'Lucas model' in PSCAD.

He has risen to the top rungs of the Electrical Engineering Profession in Sri Lanka. He is a Past Chairman of the Sri Lanka Branch of the prestigiou Institution of Electrical Engineers (UK). He has been bestowed the Research Excellence Award and the Teaching Excellence Award by the University of Moratuwa, and the Engineering Excellence Award by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka in September 2013. Having retired from formal employment on 31st March 2014, he continues to serve society in various academic capacities and as an Electrical Consultant. On 17th October 2017, on his 70th Birthday, he has been honoured by the naming of the new lab as the "Rohan Lucas High Voltage Laboratory".
