The 46th General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa was held with great distinction at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) across six sessions on 17th and 18th December 2025. The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University, Professor Monte Cassim, in the presence of senior university officials, academic staff, invited guests, parents, and well-wishers.
At the Convocation, a total of 2,729 graduands were conferred degrees and diplomas, including over 755 postgraduate qualifications marking another significant milestone in the contribution of the University to national and global higher education. A particularly noteworthy highlight of the 46th General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa was the conferral of 24 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, the highest number awarded at a single convocation in the history of the University. This remarkable achievement represents a significant increase compared to previous years and stands as a clear testament to how far the University has progressed as a leading centre for advanced research and postgraduate education in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the graduands, Professor Monte Cassim congratulated them on their academic achievements and reminded them of their responsibility as agents of hope during challenging and uncertain times. He emphasized the importance of applying scholarship, innovation, and integrity to build a more resilient, confident, and forward-looking Sri Lanka. Drawing lessons from global examples, he highlighted the critical role of long-term investment in people, education, research, and large-scale infrastructure, particularly in science and technology-driven fields. The Chancellor encouraged graduands, whether based in Sri Lanka or abroad to remain engaged with the University of Moratuwa and its alumni network in contributing to national development and global progress.
The University of Moratuwa also takes this opportunity to acknowledge with sincere appreciation the dedication and commitment of its academic, administrative, and other non-academic staff whose collective efforts ensured the successful organisation of the 46th General Convocation.
