The 45th General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa (UoM) was held with grandeur on the 17th and 18th of December 2024 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The event, conducted over six sessions, was presided over by the Chancellor of the University, Professor Monte Cassim. The ceremony brought together graduands and their proud parents, distinguished invitees, and the academic and administrative staff of the university.
A special highlight of the event was the participation of His Excellency Eric Walsh, High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, who graced the first session of the convocation and addressed the graduands. Additionally, Emeritus Professor Malik Ranasinghe was awarded the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) at the convocation.
A total of 2140 accomplished graduands, showcasing remarkable potential to challenge and inspire, were conferred degrees and diplomas across various fields, including engineering, architecture, information technology, and business. Notably, approximately 23% of them achieved postgraduate levels, including 10 graduands who earned their Ph.D. degrees. It is to be noted that the University of Moratuwa held a Convocation for Postgraduate Degrees in March 2024 where a total of 317 graduands were conferred with Postgraduate Degrees and Diplomas with 10 doctoral students among them.

The university degree programmes hold internationally recognized accreditation from various accreditation bodies, positioning them qualitatively on par with offerings from the world's premier universities.
