The 41st General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa

The 41st General Convocation of University of Moratuwa (UoM) was held on 24thand 25th August 2020 with all its glory and pride at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in six sessions. The Chancellor of the University, Vidya Jyothi Professor Emeritus KKYW Perera, presided the Convocation Ceremony. It was attended by the graduands with their parents, distinguished invitees, as well as the academic and administrative staff of the University.

The University of Moratuwa holds its General Convocation in the 3rd week of August every year. Despite  the global threat of Covid - 19 pandemic, the University held its General Convocation having no changes in the planned dates, empowering the students to immediately apply for  jobs and enroll for local and international postgraduate programmes without any delay which couldn't have been possible if the convocation was postponed. All the  students who were planning to graduate this year have been able to do so with the support received from academic, administrative, academic support and non-academic staff and the special services provided by the Center for Information Technology Services - University of Moratuwa (CITeS).

The University administration in coordination with the BMICH authorities took all the necessary steps to adhere to the  COVID-19 transmission and protective guidelines  issued by the Director-General of Health in order to hold the convocation as scheduled. The BMICH implemented nimble and responsive health safety plans including screening, checking temperatures of each individual prior to entering the BMICH premises, personal distancing with spaced seating, hand washing and sanitizing to ensure a health safety environment for the attendees.

A total of 1877 competent graduands with remarkable potential to inspire and challenge the status quo were conferred degrees in their respective fields such as engineering, architecture, information technology, and business with over 20% of them  at post graduate level including 11 graduands receiving PhDs.
