This summer (or rather) spring school will be the third in a series. The overall aim is to boost the area of Natural Language Engineering (NLE) for under-resourced South Asian languages. The subject area falls within the scope of computer science, linguistics, computational linguistics and education and is very strongly application oriented. The intention is to provide access to international experts in the field who can communicate advanced knowledge about linguistics and state of the art practices in NLE to interested graduate students and researchers in South Asia, particularly in those countries where NLE and the development of language technologies is still in the early stages, but at least not completely absent in the academic institutions or the industrial efforts of the country.

Intelligent Service Robotics Group Present Papers at 2017 IEEE/RSJ IROS

When

The paper entitled “Interpreting Uncertain Information Related to Relative References for Improved Navigational Command Understanding of Service Robots” was presented at 2017 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) held September 24-28, 2017, Vancouver, Canada by Viraj Muthugala, a research student who is working under supervision of Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara. They are working on development of MIRob (Moratuwa Intelligent Robot), an intelligent service robot for domestic environments in the robotics and control laboratory of the department of Electrical Engineering. IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) is annually organized by IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and Robotics Society Japan as their flagship conference. This research was funded by the Senate Research Capital Grants No SRC/CAP/16/03.

Intelligent Service Robotics Group Present Papers at IEEE Fuzz 2017

When

Three postgraduate students, Viraj Muthugala, Arjuna Srimal and Chapa Sirithunga of the Department of Electrical Engineering have presented three research papers at IEEE international conference on Fuzzy systems 2017 (IEEE Fuzz 2017) held July 9-12, Naples, Italy. They are working on development of MIRob (Moratuwa Intelligent Robot) , an intelligent service robot for domestic environments in the robotics and control laboratory of the department under the Supervision of Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara. This research was funded by the Senate Research Capital Grants No: SRC/CAP/14/16, SRC/CAP/16/03 and SRC/CAP/17/03.
