Assistant Lecturer (Nov. 1978 to Nov. 1983),Department of Earth Resources Engineering( Formally Mining and Minerals Engineering), University of Moratuwa
Conducting lectures in Rock Mechanics, Mine development and mineral processing, Plant performance and practicals in Rock mechanics and mineral processing. From October 1979 to October 1983, I was on leave following post graduate studies. However, from October 1981 to October 1982, I was involved with the Bogala Graphite Mine, Kahatagaha-Kolongaha Graphite Mine and Victoria Project collecting field data for my PhD project.
Senior Lecturer – Grade II (November 1983 – November 1989), Department of Earth Resources Engineering, University of Moratuwa.
Lectures and practicals in Rock Mechanics and Gemmology, Lectures in Mine Development, mining methods. organizing visits as part of the BAS Final Part II curriculum to relevant industries. Supervising final year student projects. Conducting post doctoral research at Kyoto University from May to December 1989.Research in Gemmology and Mining Engineering

¨ Director General (National Gem and Jewellery Authority of Sri Lanka) (Sept 1996 –Sept 1998) On secondment from the University, I served the above Authority. The National Gem and Jewellery Authority is the Institution which handles all the matters concerning gem and Jewellery industry in Sri Lanka. Director General is the Second highest executive officer in the Authority who handles day to day running of the institution and coordinating with the industry and other organizations in the country.

¨ Chairman (National Gem and Jewellery Authority),(Oct 1998 – May 2003). Chairman’s duty is to formulate policies with regards to the gem and jewellery industry in Sri Lanka, in consultation with the minister and other government organizations.
¨ Chairman (Geological Survey and Mines Bureau),(June 2004-March 2006). Chairman’s duty is to formulate policies with regards to the Mining and mineral industry except gems and petroleum in Sri Lanka, in consultation with the minister and other government organizations. And implementation of the same.
