Research Activities
Current research is focused on improving sustainability and efficiency in construction and waste management. Tools are being developed to better track and optimize waste material flows
enhancing waste management processes. Environmentally friendly construction materials are being created by incorporating recycled waste
reducing the environmental impact of construction. The properties of building materials used in historic Sri Lankan structures are also being studied and compared to contemporary standards to understand their durability and potential modern applications. The behavior of construction materials under extreme conditions
such as fire
is being investigated to ensure compliance with safety standards. Additionally
long-term cost and energy efficiency analyses of alternative building materials are being conducted to identify sustainable and cost-effective solutions for the industry.
Education and Professional Affiliations
PhD, Queensland University of Technology ,2023 This study focused on developing lightweight aggregate masonry blocks with improved fire resistance for use in bushfire-prone areas. It investigated how replacing sand with materials such as pumice, diatomite, expanded perlite, and expanded glass enhances thermal performance and structural behaviour under bushfire and building fire conditions. The study combined both experimental and numerical analyses to identify optimal block and wall designs that improve safety, including both loadbearing and non-loadbearing applications.
