Criterion 07: Student Assessment and Awards

Standard 7.1
Assessment strategy of student learning is considered as an integral part of programme design, with a clear relation between assessment tasks and the programme outcomes. 
  • For each degree, programme outcomes are developed in line with 12 categories referring to Bloom’s taxonomy as prescribed in the SLQF.

Standard 7.2
Assessment strategy is aligned to the specified qualification/level descriptors of the SLQF and SBS and requirements of professional bodies. 
  • All the undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Faculty come under SLQF Level 6.

  • Degrees are designed to develop students with the knowledge, practices/applications, theory/methodology as required by industry/professional bodies, and also to be able to get involved in research and development leading to postgraduate studies.

  • The above requirements have been facilitated in multiple ways by meeting the expectations of industry/professional bodies, and doing different projects, and independent studies leading to building research skills. The students are encouraged to present and publish papers related to their projects.

Standard 7.3
The Faculty/Institute has procedures for designing, approving, monitoring and reviewing the assessment strategies for programmes (incorporating all aspects of training including industrial training, clinical training etc.) and awards.
  • Procedures for designing, approving, monitoring and reviewing the assessment strategies are done at the Faculty level by the Faculty Curriculum Committee, Faculty Academic Committee and the Faculty Board.

  • The industrial training unit of the faculty closely works with the departments to identify industry placements, monitoring and assessing the students.

Standard 7.4
The Faculty/Institute reviews and amends assessment strategies and regulations periodically as appropriate and remains fit for purpose. 
  • The Faculty constantly reviews the developments in the computing sector and gets updated about the assessment strategies practiced in academia and industry.

  • Feedback related to assessment strategies are constantly gathered and minor amendments are periodically done for regulations. Major amendments are done after having meetings/workshops with stakeholders (FICB).

The Faculty/Institute adopts policies and regulations governing the appointment of both internal and external examiners and provides them with clear ToRs.

The Faculty/Institute ensures that staff involved in assessing the students are competent to undertake their roles and responsibilities and have no conflict of interest.

Standard 7.10
Appropriate arrangements/adjustments/ facilities are made available by the Faculty/Institute regarding examination requirements for students with disabilities wherever relevant. 
  • The University has appointed a medical committee to cater to all requests for medical concessions/long term leave. The Exam  By-Laws has also included concessions for differently able students.

Standard 7.11

Standard 7.15
Examination results are documented accurately and communicated to students within the stipulated time. 
  • When the marking is done for a particular examination, an internal BOE is conducted in each department and then the results will be submitted to the examinations division. Each department keeps the hardcopy and the softcopy in records of the results including the provisional display sheets and the details marks sheets. Examinations division will hold the BOE and examination results are handled centrally. Results submission progress is checked by the Senate.

Standard 7.16
