Seminar on Open Access Resources

Library, University of Moratuwa organized a seminar on “Open Access Resources" with the collaboration of National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka (NSF). The seminar was held on 29th April 2014, at Library Auditorium from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.

Three resource persons conducted the session to emphasize the importance and the value of Open Access Scholarly Information for the researches of the academics.

Into Nature …

In order to create enthusiasm about the surrounding environment and its components as well to guide to observe the nature, Library organized an awareness programme for students of Bodhiraja Vidyalaya on 30th January, 2014 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in Library Auditorium. This awareness programme was conducted in collaboration with Young Zoologist Association of Sri Lanka and Nature Team of University of Moratuwa.

Child Development Programme in Sumudu Preschool, University of Moratuwa

Library recently established an Outreach Services Division to address the changing nature of library services which are no longer limited to a particular space in a building with stack of books.Having recognized the social responsibility in reaching the community around the university premises, Library launched “Child Development  Programme“ in Sumudu Preschool  at University of Moratuwa as first outreach activity .Child Development Programme is conducted  every Tuesdays and Fridays in the preschool by Library staff members.

A presentation on Turnitin Plagiarism Software

Library, University of Moratuwa has taken the initial steps to subscribe software which could help to check students’ work for improper citation or plagiarism by comparing it against the original documents. “Turnitin” was the selected tool for that purpose.  An introductory session to Turnitin was organized on 03rd September 2013 at the Library auditorium. The resources person was Mr. Arjun B.J, Territory Manager of Balani Infotech Pvt. Ltd, India. Prof.

Workshop on Literature Review, Plagiarism and Referencing

A workshop on “Literature Review, Plagiarism and Referencing” was organized by the Library with collaboration of the Postgraduate Division of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa on 12th June 2013 at Computer Laboratory of the Library. The target group was Postgraduate students of Faculty of Engineering. The objective of the workshop was enhancing the student's knowledge on Information Handling, Plagiarism and Referencing.

Library Orientation Programme for new Undergraduate Students


Library, University of Moratuwa conducted orientation programmes for new undergraduate students from 02nd April to 30th May 2013. New undergraduate students from three faculties (Architecture, Engineering and Information Technology) were the participants of these programmes and the programme was in two sessions. First session was conducted to introduce the library’s wealth of resources, facilities and services. Library tours were arranged and aimed for new students in order to introduce the physical lay-out of the library.

Re-zoning the Library to introduce Learning Commons

The mission of the Learning Commons is to create a unique learning hub integrating technology, information and expertise in order to strengthen teaching, research and learning opportunities for UOM & ITUM students, faculty, and staff.

The library and its partner groups worked together to create a cohesive plan of action during the 2011-2012 academic year to recreate the floor plan of the library to accommodate the changes needed to enhance study and work space.
