The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME) gratefully received a MIG-27 fighter aircraft from Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), as a unique learning resource for promoting Aeronautical Engineering Degree programme. The official handing over of the aircraft was ceremoniously held on the 20th December 2021, with the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Vice Chancellor Prof. N. D. Gunawardena, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. P.K.S. Mahanama, Dean-Faculty of Engineering Prof. N. Wickramarachchi, Head-DoME Dr. Himan Punchihewa, Academic/Non-academic staff members, and students.
In addition, a formal Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Air Force Commander and Vice-Chancellor to further solidify the long standing partnership.
